# Change to two-way players starting in the 2023 season

Ottoneu managers currently have to choose between receiving hitting stats or pitching stats from two-way players such as Shohei Ohtani on days they pitch, depending on if they are placed in the Util slot or a SP slot. However [MLB introduced the “Ohtani rule”](https://blogs.fangraphs.com/here-comes-the-ohtani-rule-and-sigh-the-manfred-man/) just before the start of this season, which allows players to both start at pitcher and be the designated hitter and remain in at DH even after being replaced at pitcher. This rule change allows players to play 2 positions in the same game, DH and pitcher. In order to remain aligned with MLB, Ottoneu will make a change for the 2023 season.

Starting next season, Shohei Ohtani and any other two-way players that have earned both a position eligibility and a pitching eligibility will show up 2 times on lineup pages, once in the hitter section and once in the pitcher section. They will be usable the same way as other offensive players in the offensive section of the lineup page and the same as other pitchers in the pitching section of the lineup page.

This change will allow managers who roster two-way players to get both offensive and pitching stats from those players on days that they are both the DH and the SP, if they place the player into a valid offensive slot and a valid pitching slot. Managers can also choose to only get the hitting stats, just the pitching stats, or neither. It will not affect the number of roster spots or the amount of cap affected by rostering two-way players.

I’ll roll out this change for the lineup page ahead of the 2023 season and will update this thread when that is complete. This change is reflected on the Roster Organizer right now. Make sure to refresh if you roster Ohtani and you’ll see him in both the list of hitters and in the list of pitchers.
