# Move baseball trade deadline earlier

This year the number of trades of expensive stars for minor keepers has been a problem in a few leagues I am in. Now with the trade deadline actually a day after the regular season ends there are more trades that will occur from team’s whose season is over yet they can still trade with a playoff team, that makes no sense.
The last two year teams that have won have had payrolls of over $600 (over $700 in one league) as teams out of it trade stars to rebuild. An earlier trade deadline (when theoretically more teams are in it) would help this issue.

We have had a commish enforced + or - $200 “hard cap” to try and counter the impact of deadline loans and deals a bit. Still always significant rebuilder or competitor swings and you can adjust your cap as desired.

I agree. Trades after the regular H2H are terrible. Both sides of a trade should have some skin in the current season. Trade deadline should be two weeks or more before end of the season. Vetos are a bad idea.
