Hi there,

We had a manager reach the championship for the first time since they joined this year.

Midweek I made a post that mentioned that this was the final week.

They were surprised, saying that they had read the rules and it was a 2-week championship.

I was surprised at this as we have had a 1-week championship since before this manager joined the league. How could they be so misled?

The answer is that they looked at the Rules rather than the League Settings. We have 6 team playoffs, the description of which concludes: “The championship will occur during the 3rd and 4th playoff weeks.”

I would suggest amending this line to “during the 3rd and 4th playoff weeks (if 2-week championship is selected) or the 3rd playoff week (if 1-week championship is selected).” See League Settings for which your league is." Or similar. I’m not sure if the Rules were drafted and then the playoff options expanded later, or if the thought was that “will occur during 3rd and 4th” encompasses a 3rd-week championship (probably a fair interpretation but also probably not the first sense a reader would get).

If you read all the way to VII.e, it becomes suggested that not all championships are 2-week, but I can see why this manager was under the impression she was.

Luckily a) I happened to mention the 1-week timeline midweek and b) it appears she will win regardless. But she definitely made roster moves under the wrong impression.

Sincerely,

Hayden

I’ve modified the line to read:

> The championship will occur during the 3rd and, if necessary due to a 2-week championship, 4th playoff weeks.

In a similar line of thinking, the section about when the final transactions of the season are allowed can be confusing for people with 1 week playoffs. It talks about the final game of the season, but if you are in 1 week playoffs, you have an additional week of free agency after your league’s playoffs end. It should say final game of the MLB season perhaps? Especially since when I read “end of regular season”, my first thought is about my league’s regular season (but transactions still are allowed during our playoffs).

“Transactions can be requested from the day of the annual draft until the next-to-last day of the regular season. All auctions must be completed prior to midnight of the last day of games of the season. For example, if the last game of the season is on a Sunday , all auctions must be started by midnight Eastern Time on Friday night”

I’ve updated this text to be explicit about the MLB season.
