Show roster spots on cut player confirmation screen

On the cut player confirmation screen, we are currently shown (example):

  • Your roster would be valid.

  • You would have $4 available cap space

  • You would have 3 available roster spots

  • Jorge Polanco would add a $2 cap penalty

  • Hurston Waldrep would add a $2 cap penalty

  • Giancarlo Stanton would add a $2 cap penalty

What this doesn’t show me has to do with the $1/roster spot dilemma. Is $4 my new max bid (if after cutting all 3 of these, I still have 40 players, then yes), or is $2 my new max bid (if I now only have 37 players, for example)?

I know that I’m legal, but I don’t know by how much. Since this logic is already built into the auction draft, I suspect it could be added here.

Ottoneu does not enforce max bids during the season, so I don’t think this is the right way to think about this page.

The goal is to maintain a legal roster. The cut page allows you to cut down to a legal roster when you are over limits. As such, the only that matters on the cut page specificially is the binary question of “Would this put you in a legal state?”

The only place a max bid matters is the actual auction draft, because you cannot go over limits while drafting. However, you are very famously allowed to go over limits when bidding in 48 hour auctions. You just need to in some reasonable amount of time get back to legal.

I don’t think the concept of a max bid makes sense in-season, and I don’t think the site should suggest that you have a limit that doesn’t exist and isn’t enforced.

Clearly max bid is the wrong word.

Maybe the key is just to add on that third line:

  • You would have 3 available roster spots (39 of 42)

That allows me to immediately contextualize the $4 available against $1 held for that 1 open spot.

This makes more sense to me.

I think there are a few ways this could be conveyed, and I will mess around with some ideas.

I like this idea. I feel myself always thinking about this thoroughly before I hit the ok button when I’m dropping players. I think any additional info on that page would be useful.

Yeah, I think max bid is the wrong word, but now I see what you mean with your followup comment.
