Come 12:01am on February 1, we are going to have a whole new list of abandoned teams.
Sure, the new managers can get a “round” of penalty free cuts but they miss out on the ability to trade.
Instead, of freezing rosters on February 1 until draft day (which won’t happen til later march for some leagues), my proposal would be to let all teams trade players (we want to replicate MLB, right?) and also drop players (at 1/2 the salary).
This way, newly joining managers (picking up abandoned teams) can seek trades before engaging in their round of penalty free cuts.
And, it keeps everyone else involved until draft day (and let’s managers consider dropping players who suffer season ending injuries at 1/2 the salary hit)
