Justin Wilson Has Thrown the First No-No of 2017

Anyone noticed how good Justin Wilson has been this season? As of this writing (4/29) he’s still only owned in 83% of Ottoneu leagues (5 Holds + 1 Save). The 29 y/o Detroit lefty has yet to give up a hit this year in 9 2/3 IP, and those IP have come with a 13.9 K/9 thanks to a 15% swinging strike rate (the best of his career). Even better, he’s not walking many betters (just 3) either, so his 36.4% K - BB% puts him comfortably in the top 10 relievers so far YTD. Wilson’s velocity is also a career best (96.5 fastball) which has translated to improvements on almost every pitch type in his arsenal and by far the lowest Zone Contact rate (66.7%) of his career (previous average was 83%).

Wilson basically only has the 35 y/o Francisco Rodriguez ahead of him in the Tiger’s bullpen, and could be given a shot at closing later this year if K-Rod keeps giving up the long ball…

Very happily picked him up on Saturday for a buck. My brain is having trouble processing a reliever pitching well out of a Detroit bullpen though!
