Kyle Bradish and Lance Lynn counting as 2 GS against GS cap because of suspended game

Thanks for bumping this @nivshah . This also seems to be affecting my available starts. I had Bradish starting yesterday, kept him in SP today, and it took a start away as a result, even though he doesn’t have the green check mark. If this is cleaned up by tomorrow or Friday it shouldn’t block any starts but figured this angle was worth mentioning.

This came up (most recently) here:

I’ll make sure neither of the resumed game SP count as 2 GS tonight. Thanks for the reminder!

EDIT This should be sorted out for anyone who started Kyle Bradish or Lance Lynn in a format that has a GS cap.

Question: I’m not sure what it looks like to be sorted out, but my Lance Lynn start is still being counted as two GS, after keeping him in my SP slot yesterday. @nivshah

I fixed the issue too early and the system undid my fix. I’ve fixed it again today and that should stick. Let me know if it doesn’t.

It looks good now! Great work!

So presumably Garret Crochet and Andrew Heaney will not lose a GS for us this week? I know it’s not instant, but it is showing as a start down currently for the game that didn’t happen yesterday.

That game started so Crochet, minimally, will count as a GS, because he started a game that started.

I’ll have to look closer at Heaney.

A pitcher is credited with a game started if he is the first pitcher to throw a pitch for his team in a given game

I’ll remove Heaney’s “start” yesterday so that it does not affect GS caps.

EDIT Actually I need to wait and see who pitches for Texas when they resume that game today.

Looks like Heaney is set to do so. I’m assuming I would need to just have him active today then, yes?

Hi Niv,

Thanks for the replies on this thread. I am wondering if you can reconsider Crochet given that he is not going to be charged with even a single batter faced. The count is 2-2, and under MLB Rule 9.16(h)(3):

“(3) If, when pitchers are changed, the count is
2 balls, 2 strikes,
1 ball, 2 strikes,
1 ball, 1 strike,
1 ball, no strike,
no ball, 2 strikes,
no ball, 1 strike,
the Official Scorer shall charge that batter and the actions of that batter to the relief pitcher.”

Crochet will not be charged with a batter faced. Crochet may not even be given a MLB “start” tally irl for the weirdness of last night. Seems an edge case, but w/o a batter faced under MLB rules, not charging him a start seems reasonable and consistent with the purpose of the Ottoneu rule limiting/allowing 10 starts per week in HTH leagues.

Thanks again

No, if you played Heaney yesterday, per the way we use resumed games (look at the other thread on this) you will get credit for his GS today.

We’ll follow the official stat. I cited the rule from MLB, but if they decide to not follow their rules, which they apparently can do now, then we will just follow the official stat.

Ottoneu is not an official scorekeeper and as such I have no say over considering or reconsidering this stuff.

No worries, makes sense. Thanks

As of right now, I believe Crochet has credit for the GS but does not get credit for the lead off hitter getting walked.

I will confirm this when we get the full final box score.

Crochet, per the MLB rule book, has correctly been given a GS for throwing the first 4 pitches for Chicago in the suspended Rangers-White Sox game. He was not given credit for the walk that was granted to the lead off hitter. Heaney did end up starting for the Rangers when the game resumed.
