In my matchup ending tonight, how the system handled a lineup situation surprised me. I doubt anything is actually broken, and I’m not even sure the correct way to handle the situation, but I figured I’d just post about it.

Going into games at 9 pm eastern tonight, I had 1 UTIL spot left to play. I had 2 people scheduled in the lineup for it though - Jamal Murray (who was questionable going into the day) and Peyton Watson. My thought was that if Murray played, I would get his points, but if he sat, I would get Watson.
The decision on Murray playing or not wasn’t made until pretty late, and I wasn’t able to monitor to take him out of the lineup in time. So then, with both players on the same team, their game obviously started at the same time. And the system took Murray into the spot, even though he didn’t play any minutes in the game.
This is obviously a kinda hard case to plan around, so I’m not sure what the solution should be.
Agreed, this is a weird one.
The way the site works now if you have 1 game remaining and 2 guys whose games start at the same time, is the player with the lower player ID (I believe, it may be arbitrary) will get the slot and the other player will be benched.
The way the site works now for any player that does not play but is in your lineup is that you lose the game played when they lock but you get it back once their game is completed and they according to the box score played 0 minutes. This is more robust than relying on player status, since it is 100% right, but this may be overkill. Using Player Status would get you the game back a lot faster. In your case, I’m not sure it would have mattered, since both players would lock at the same time.
The answer for now is “monitor your lineup” but I am saying that fully knownig that it is a massive challenge. I’d like to think on how to make this easier for people - lineup management in general for basketball should be easier I think, but for now, this is how everything works. Will give this some thought this summer.
Yeah I totally agree that lineup management is about easier now than it was back in the early days. I ended up winning the week, so no impact from this. Thanks!
