Thanks for providing this site. I never thought I’d find such an in-depth keeper-league site, but here I am. I’m going to make a scoring suggestion. FWIW, I believe the negative points for “allowing” (not giving up) a HR are way too much. Hitters hit a “good” pitch out quite often. At least 50% (if not more) of the HR is a positive for a hitter. Did I lead my league in giving up HRs? Probably. LOL. But, I think when a pitcher gives up 2 solo HRs in a 5-inning, 5K game, where he scattered 5 other hits (no runs allowed), with ZERO walks, 9 total points is just not enough. IMHO. I’ve discussed this with my commish and he tends to agree, as do at least two other managers in our league. However, we cannot adjust scoring for our league. Is there anyway to allow each league to adjust their own scoring? Thanks for listening.
Points are not arbitrary- they are tied to FIP. You can read about how it works:
The point systems will not be changed.
Completely agree with you Niv but I have always been irked by the fact that inside the park homers count as a HR allowed. If we were purely FIP-based, an inside the park homer is certainly not “fielding independent.” Obviously this occurrence is fairly rare, and I’m sure the stats site we use does not differentiate between a HR and an inside the park HR, but I do wonder if anything could be done about this.
Just to be super, super clear:
FIP does not distinguish between HRs that leave the park and HRs that don’t. The current point system is FIP-based. Any system that separated out inside the park home runs would not be “purely FIP-based”.
