Duplicate Players Resolution

I see 2 “classes” of duplicate players in my basketball leagues:

  • International and College players that have been drafted by a pro team
  • International players that are now on a college team

Searching through the Ottoneu community, I see that this issue has occurred in Fantasy Football and has been resolved through a “linkage” process. Any idea when this will happen for Basketball? Presumably before auctions start?

I’ll check it out now. It’s a little different here - if the automated linking didn’t work, it might be because names are slightly different across the different player universes we bring together. If you have some examples, that would be very helpful.

Alright, whatever I’ve done to try to add new players to the basketball player universe is definitely not working for players that were drafted or signed as FA. I’m going to talk to our data provider and see if I can figure out a better solution.

Thanks for looking into it. FWIW, it looks like its not isolated to drafted or signed players. Here is an example

Yeah you mentioned International->College which I definitely was not doing right before.

This is going to take a while to untangle but I will update this thread as things progress. Really appreciate you bringing this to my attention!

Had a lot of baseball stuff come up this week but I wanted to mention that I’m continuing to work on this issue and hope to have a resolution next week.

Another oddity - David Jones, who is on a two-way deal with the Sixers, has two pages…but the Sixers one is “David Jonesd” and the Delaware one is “David Jones”

Alright, I appreciate you raising this because its good to verify that this name has been updated by our data provider.

I’m continuing to work on a good solution for updating our player universe to include a large number of players while not creating duplicates or accidentally screwing up player names.

I’m working under the deadline of the keeper deadline to get this cleaned up.

Another name related one - there are now two Jaylin Williams in the NBA. The one on OKC and a rookie on a training camp deal with Denver. Unclear if the Denver one will actually play in the NBA this year and not the GL so idk how urgent it is, but came across it in my own work.

The Denver Jaylin Williams is in the system but only at the college level. That one is going to be lower priority than cleaning up all these names and then getting rid of duplicates. I’ll keep an eye on it though. Since they have different birthdays it should work out.

We actually only have active rosters so once we get to a point where training camp players get assigned to G-League rosters, they will be added to or updated in the system.

I made a lot of progress on this today and should have an update either late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Ok, the player universe has been updated. I’ve gone through the players highlighted in this thread and most of them seem to be linked up correctly.

I’ll continue to monitor this thread if there are any issues I missed, but going forward this process should be automated much better than it was in the past.

Found two Nikola Djurisic pages - ID 29538 for Hawks and 22700 for Mega Bemax (pre-draft team)

Out of curiosity are you using one of those two IDs or creating a new one?

This ID will be his ID. Got burned on the last names not lining up.

Looks like an issue with the data provider. I’ve reached out and then will be able to remove one.

Going forwad, Karim Lopez’s Ottoneu ID is 27545. The other Karim Lopez has been deleted.
