I don’t know if anyone remembers the FanGraphs WAR game where you chose a position and a player each day at that position to accumulate WAR from. I do not recall the name.
A scoring system like that where it is just 1 category, fWAR, for ottoneu could be really fun. No more questions of “good in real baseball” vs “good in fantasy”.
You are describing FanGraphs Points, the most popular scoring format in Ottoneu. The only difference is that FanGraphs Points does not include defense, but the reasons for no defensive fantasy value are covered elsewhere on the forums:

I didn’t know defensive runs saved can change during the year due to park factors. Fascinating!
